NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its All-Academic Teams and individual honorees on Thursday, and the Washington and Lee women's cross country squad garnered the team award and had four runners recognized.
The Generals were among 215 Division III programs honored for academic achievement. To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, a squad must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or better. The Blue and White combined for a 3.54 team GPA. LeTourneau led all women's programs with a 3.85 GPA.
Individually, seniors Kirsten McMichael (Eighty Four, Pa./Ringgold), Maggie Seybold (Cockeysville, Md./McDonogh School) and Samantha Yates (Birmingham, Ala./St. Paul's School), along with junior Julia Moody (Houston, Texas/St. John's School), notched a spot on the women's All-Academic Squad.
To qualify, honorees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 and have finished in the Top 25 percent of finishers at regionals. The four were among the 382 women nationally to receive the honor.
At the NCAA South/Southeast Region Championship on November 10, Yates placed 10th out of 237 runners with a time of 22:59.46. Seybold took 12th in 23:14.96, Moody finished 23rd (23:39.85) and McMichael claimed 53rd (24:44.47).
Yates and Seybold each garnered First Team All-ODAC laurels this year, and Moody earned a spot on the second team. Yates, Seybold and Moody also claimed all-region accolades.
The Generals won their 18th ODAC Championship in the fall, and went on to place third out of 32 teams at the regional.
