Multiple Generals Named ODAC Athlete of the Week

FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has announced three Washington and Lee student-athletes have been named the conference's athlete of the week in their respective sport for the week ending March 24.

Sophomore Meghan Buell (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) earned the award for women's tennis, senior Hayden White (Baltimore, Md./Towson) garnered the honor for men's tennis and senior outfielder Will Salley (Augusta, Ga./Westside) received the award for baseball.

Buell registered a 4-1 singles record and a 4-1 doubles mark as the Generals posted a 4-2 week that included three matchups versus Top 20 teams. On Wednesday, she went 4-0 when playing at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles in wins over Shenandoah (7-0) and Roanoke (5-0). In the Fab 7 Tournament over the weekend, Buell dropped just two matches, claiming two wins against No. 16 Tufts and No. 19 Sewanee, but falling to No. 2 Amherst in both singles and doubles. On the year, she is 14-6 in singles play and holds a 16-6 mark in doubles action.

For the second week in a row, White garnered Player of the Week honors after notching a 5-0 record when playing at No. 1 singles and No. 1 and 2 doubles on a 3-0 week for W&L. He went 2-0 when playing in wins against Bridgewater (5-1) and Hampden-Sydney (9-0), and collected a singles win in an 8-1 victory over Shenandoah. White claims a 19-5 singles record and a 12-7 doubles mark this season.

In four games, Salley hit .412, while leading the team to a 3-1 record. He ended the week with seven hits in 17 at bats, two home runs, five RBI, seven runs, a double and a steal. Salley had a .500 on-base percentage and an .824 slugging percentage. His two home runs against Earlham stretched his consecutive home run stretch to four games, before it ended against Bridgewater.

The women's tennis team returns to the court on Wednesday, when it faces Lynchburg and Randolph at 4:00 pm. Men's tennis plays again on Wednesday when it hosts Lynchburg for a 4:00 pm match, while baseball is back on the field on Wednesday to take on Eastern Mennonite at 4:00 pm.
