W&L Women's Swimming Wins ODAC Relays

LEXINGTON, Va. – The 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay squads set two new Cy Twombly Pool records, as the Washington and Lee women's swimming team finished first out of nine teams on Saturday afternoon at the ODAC Relays.

W&L amassed 459 points and was followed by Emory & Henry in second with 358 markers and Randolph-Macon in third with 237 tallies. Bridgewater (227) and Hollins (70) rounded out the Top 5.

The Generals won seven of the 10 relay events in the meet led by junior Emily Rollo (Haddonfield, N.J. / Haddonfield Memorial), who competed on five winning relay squads, including the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay quartets that set new pool records.

Sophomore Kira Tomenchok (Richmond,Va. / Trinity Episcopal School) and first-year Jordan Watson (Fayetteville, Ga. / Whitewater) both took part in four winning relays, while first-year Elle Chancey (Tampa, Fla. / Berkeley Preparatory School), junior Elisabeth Holmes (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) and senior Stephanie Foster (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) swam on three winning relays.

The 200-yard medley relay team touched the wall in 1:51.10, to break the previous record that was set in 2015, featured Rollo, Chancey, Tomenchok and senior Sarah Schaffer (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton Warrenville South). The 400-yard freestyle relay clocked in at 3:38.23, which broke the pool record, and consisted of Rollo, Chancey, Watson and Holmes.

Rollo, Holmes and Watson also competed on the 3x100-yard individual medley relay that took first place with a time of 3:13.56.

Holmes and Watson added a win with the 500-yard freestyle relay team that touched the wall in 4:47.09. The duo was accompanied by Chancey and Foster.

Rollo also swam on the 3x50-yard backstroke relay (1:22.05) and the 100-yard butterfly dolphin kick relay (55.97). Foster and Tomenchok joined her on the 3x50 back relay and the trio competed on the 100 fly dolphin kick relay, along with Watson.

The other winning event for W&L was the 8x25-yard freestyle relay that touched in 1:39.82 and was made up of Tomenchok, senior Emma Swabb (Erie, Pa. / McDowell), junior Jillian Leigh (Old Greenwich, Conn. / Greenwich), and first-year Maddie Simko (Summit, N.J. / Summit).

Washington and Lee returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Randolph-Macon for a 1:00 pm contest.
