LEXINGTON, Va. – Sophomore forward Tricia Jessee (Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry) scored a pair of goals to lead the second-seeded Washington and Lee women's soccer team to a 2-0 triumph over sixth-seeded Shenandoah in the ODAC Tournament semifinals on Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field.
The win improved W&L to 15-1-1 and Shenandoah ends its season 8-10-2.
After a scoreless first half, Jessee opened the scoring just 4:28 into the second half when she found the net off of an assist from senior midfielder Holley Beasley (Virginia Beach, Va. / Norfolk Academy).
The Generals' defense continued to hold the Hornets at bay until Jessee provided an insurance tally in the 89th minute when she beat SU sophomore goalkeeper Erin Septer (Hamilton, N.J. / West).
Junior goalkeeper Addie Healy (Waterford, Va. / Woodgrove) played the entire match in net for W&L, recording three saves. Septer also saw all 90 minutes in goal and posted five saves for the Hornets.
For the game, the Generals out-shot SU, 17-13, and took eight corner kicks as opposed to Shenandoah's zero.
W&L will be back in action on Saturday when it plays the winner of a game between top-seeded Lynchburg and fourth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan in the ODAC Tournament championship. That game will be contested at 7:00 pm this evening.
