LYNCHBURG, Va. — With two goals in the second half, fourth-ranked Lynchburg defeated the Washington and Lee women's soccer team, 2-0, on Saturday at Shellenberger Field.
The loss is the first for the Generals (10-1-1, 8-1-1 ODAC) this season, and it ended an 11-contest unbeaten streak.
The Hornets (16-0-0, 10-0-0 ODAC) scored its first goal in the 51st minute. Junior midfielder Jade Woll dribbled down the left side and beat junior goalkeeper Addie Healy (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove) to take a 1-0 lead. Lynchburg stretched with lead to 2-0 with 9:33 left on the clock, as junior forward Morgan Singer scored off a cross from first-year defender Emily Maxwell.
Healy played all 90 minutes for the Generals and made a season-high eight saves. The Blue and White also had one team save. Sophomore Tess Frelick saw all 90 minutes of action at goalkeeper for the Hornets and made one save.
LC totaled 20 shots compared to seven for W&L, and held an 11-1 advantage in shots on goal. Each team took three corner kicks.
The Generals return to action on Wednesday, when they host Bridgewater at 4:00 pm.
