W&L's Hallyburton Set to Wrestle at NCAA Championship

Rexx Hallyburton

ROANOKE, Va. – The NCAA has released the 18-man brackets for the Division III wrestling championship to be held on Friday and Saturday at the Berglund Center in Roanoke.

Washington and Lee junior 184-pounder Rexx Hallyburton (Bishop, Ga. / Oconee County) will compete at the NCAA Championship after qualifying by winning his weight class at the NCAA Southeast Regional on February 22-23.

Hallyburton, who has recorded an 18-6 overall mark, will begin his tournament on Friday morning against the No. 4 seed in the 184-pound bracket, junior John Boyle of Western New England College.  Boyle carries a 29-6 overall record and earned his bid to nationals via a second-place finish in the NCAA Northeast Regional.  Last season, Boyle placed fourth in the 184-pound weight class at the NCAA Championship to earn All-America laurels.

Hallyburton will be competing at the NCAA National Championship for the first time in his three seasons at W&L.  He has posted a 42-18 career record for the Generals thus far.

Friday's opening session will begin at 11:00 am, with the second session beginning at 6:00 pm.  The eight All-Americans in each bracket will be determined by the end of Friday's action.

Saturday's championship semifinals are at 10:00 am and include third-, fifth- and seventh-place matches. The finals are set for 7:00 pm.
