ROANOKE, Va. – Four members of the Washington and Lee wrestling team were in action on Saturday at the Star City Open held at the Hotel Roanoke.
Sophomore Michael Dik (Boxford, Mass. / St. John's Prep) and first-year Chris McCrackin (Homer, Ga. / Banks County) competed in the 149-pound bracket, while first-year Colby Boudreau (Epsom, N.H. / Northfield Mount Hermon) participated in the 157-pound bracket. First-year Zach Francis (Southlake, Texas / Southlake Carroll) wrestled in the 184-pound weight class.
McCrackin had the most success on the day, notching a 3-1 mark and finishing as the runner-up at 149 pounds. He opened with a 16-0 technical fall over Nathaniel Hashisaki of VMI and then posted a win by fall (1:09) over Lawson Capps of Spartansburg Methodist. In the semifinals, he recorded another pin, this time over Edward Allen of UNC-Pembroke. In the finals, he dropped a 15-8 decision to Collin Saunders of Ferrum.
Dik finished the day with a 2-2 overall mark and both Boudreau and Francis completed the tournament with a 1-2 mark.
Washington and Lee returns to action on December 3 when it takes part in the Ohio Northern Invitational. Wrestling begins at 9:00 am.
