W&L's Ron Tassoni Competes at NCAA Championships

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Washington and Lee senior 184-pounder Ron Tassoni (Media, Pa. / Haverford School) was in action on Friday at the NCAA Division III National Championships held at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Tassoni dropped both of his matches to finish his season with a 33-7 overall record.

He opened the day with a match against top-seeded Riley Lefever of Wabash College, the two-time defending National Champion.  Lefever, who has never lost to a Division III opponent, claimed a pin in 4:30.

In the consolation bracket, Tassoni squared off against Brandon Conrad of Rhode Island College.  Conrad scored a takedown and four-point near fall to assume an early lead en route to posting a 14-7 victory.

Tassoni completes his W&L career with a program-record 97 wins (97-43).  He is the first General to qualify for the National Championship since 2001.
