W&L Wrestling Hosts the W&L Duels

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team posted a 1-2 overall record on Monday afternoon, as it hosted the W&L Duels at the Warner Center.

The Generals dropped a 31-16 decision to Ohio Northern and suffered a 33-14 setback against Lycoming.  W&L then recovered to post a 29-11 win over Muskingum to move to 6-5 overall on the season.

The Blue & White was paced by a trio of wrestlers who finished with a perfect 3-0 record on the day.  First-year Zach Bylykbashi (Southington, Conn. / Southington) went 3-0 at 133 pounds, sophomore Brandon Lefore (Morgan Hill, Calif. / Ann Sobrato) posted three wins at 174 pounds and senior Ron Tassoni (Media, Pa. / Haverford School) logged a 3-0 mark at 184 pounds.

Bylykbashi improved to 21-3 on the season with a pair of technical falls and one win by decision.  He opened with a 17-2 tech fall over Nathan Palmer of Ohio Northern and then notched a 16-0 tech fall of Lycoming's Will Newmiller.  Bylykbashi finished his day with a 6-4 decision over Toby Warrington of Muskingum.

Tassoni moved to 17-1 on the season and is now just two wins away from setting the school's career win record with an 81-27 overall mark.  He won in dominating fashion, recording three wins by fall.  He opened with a pin of Ohio Northern's Ian Brown in 4:36 and then pinned Brandon Rudy of Lycoming in 3:23.  He finished with a pin of Muskingum's Caleb Cox in 1:20.

Lefore also dominated his opponents with a pair of tech falls and one decision.  He posted an 18-2 tech fall over ONU's Max Dole and then notched a 6-2 decision over Lycoming's Brandon Conrad.  His final match was an 18-0 tech fall of Muskingum's Tanner Walker.  Lefore is now 17-5 on the season.

Washington and Lee will now break for the holidays before returning to action on January 9 when it hosts the Jim Crytzer Invitational at 10:00 am.
