DENVER, Colo. — The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced its weekly coaches' poll on Monday, and Washington and Lee moved to top spot in the Division III Top 25 for the first time in this poll's history.
The Generals (10-2, 4-0 ODAC) garnered 11 first-place votes and 596 points to climb to first in the rankings. This is the second time in team history W&L has been ranked number one in a poll, as the Blue and White reached first in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division III rankings during the 2017 season. The Generals are currently fifth in the most recent Nike/US Lacrosse Division III rankings in 2019.
W&L was second the previous two weeks in the IWLCA poll, but supplanted Gettysburg (10-1) this week, after the Bullets lost to Franklin and Marshall on Wednesday, 9-6. Gettysburg (10-1) is second in the poll with four first-place nods and 588 points. Before this week, the Bullets had been the top team in the rankings all season. Middlebury (9-1) is currently third with five first-place votes and 587 points.
After defeating Randolph-Macon, 17-5, on Wednesday, the Blue and White pushed its winning streak to seven games dating back to March 13. This season, the Generals have also earned wins over three teams in the Top 8 of the poll.
Senior attacker Haley Tucker (Manakin-Sabot, Va./St. Catherine's) leads the team in scoring with 39 goals and 14 assists for 53 points. First-year attacker Katherine Faria (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) is second with 27 goals and 10 assists for 37 points.
The Generals return to action on Saturday when they play at Lynchburg at 1:00 pm.
