CLARKSVILLE, Ga. – The 16th-ranked Washington and Lee women's golf team finished second out of seven teams at the Piedmont Spring Invitational held at The Orchard Golf & Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
Eighth-ranked Methodist won the tournament after posting a two-day total of 317-312—629 (+53). The Generals notched a 326-328—654 (+78) to finish eight strokes ahead of 24th-ranked Huntingdon, who carded a 332-330—662 (+86).
Methodist's Jillian Drinkard was the individual medalist after posting a +8 score of 76-76—152. W&L sophomores Laurie Jones (Atlanta, Ga. / Blessed Trinity) and Beth Ann Townsend (Greenville, S.C. / Travelers Rest) finished seven strokes back in a four-way tie for third-place overall. Jones posted an 80-79—159 (+15), while Townsend shot 77-82—159 (+15).
Junior Griffin Foultz (San Antonio, Texas / St. Mary's Hall) placed in a tie for 13th out of 43 golfers with an 81-86—167 (+23) and first-year Savannah Johnson (Owens Cross Roads, Ala. / Huntsville) shot 88-83—171 (+27) to place 21st overall.
Sophomore Hannah Wright (Thompsons Station, Tenn. / Battle Ground Academy) carded a 91-84—175 (+31) and rounded out the Generals in the field with a tie for 24th overall.
Washington and Lee returns to the links on April 28-30 when it competes in the ODAC Championship held at the Bryan Park Champions Course in Greensboro, N.C.
