CLARKESVILLE, Ga. – The 16th-ranked Washington and Lee women's golf team fired an opening round score of 326 (+34) and sits in second-place out of seven teams at the Piedmont Spring Invitational held at The Orchard Golf & Country Club on Monday.
Eighth-ranked Methodist is the team leader after day one with a +25 score of 317. The Generals are second and 24th-ranked Huntingdon is third with a +40 score of 332.
Methodist's Jillian Drinkard and Peyton Durham are tied for the individual lead, as both shot 76 (+3) on Monday. W&L sophomore Beth Ann Townsend (Greenville, S.C. / Travelers Rest) is in third-place out of the 43 individual golfers, one stroke back with a 77 (+4).
Sophomore Laurie Jones (Atlanta, Ga. / Blessed Trinity) is in sixth-place with an 80 (+7), while junior Griffin Foultz (San Antonio, Texas / St. Mary's Hall) carded an 81 that is tied for seventh overall.
First-year Savannah Johnson (Owens Cross Roads, Ala. / Huntsville) posted an 88 (+15) and is tied for 23rd, and sophomore Hannah Wright (Thompsons Station, Tenn. / Battle Ground Academy) registered a 91 (+18) that is tied for 28th overall.
Washington and Lee continues action on Tuesday with the final round from The Orchard Golf & Country Club.
