LEXINGTON, Va. – The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) announced on Friday that Washington and Lee first-year Sam Johnson (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day) has been selected to compete in the inaugural Metropolitan Equitation Challenge as part of the Longines Masters.
Johnson was chosen as one of the top 24 riders in the IHSA and will compete against a field of riders mostly from the Metropolitan area who ride in IHSA Zone 1, 2 and 3. The class will have a 20-30 minute warmup followed by two rounds: the first round over fences at 0.85m with the top 12 coming back for a flat work off and judged by mutually chosen 5* riders competing at the Longines Masters of New York. The 10-20 horses provided by the IHSA will be used in a random draw format to be paired with riders.
Johnson is currently second in the latest Cacchione Cup Individual Rider Standings with 61 points, trailing Randolph's Kirby Tidmore by 12 points for the top spot.
The Metropolitan Equitation Challenge will take place from April 25 to 28 in New York, N.Y. For more information, click here.
