W&L Riding ties for second at Bridgewater/JMU

2018-19 W&L Riding team

WYERS CAVE, Va. – The Washington and Lee riding team tied for second place out of eight teams at the Bridgewater/JMU IHSA Invitational on Saturday.

The Generals won three classes among their seven top-three individual finishes to claim a team reserve championship at BC/JMU. Riders placed in 13-of-16 events to maintain a hold on second throughout the day. Regional leader Randolph earned top honors with UVA tying the Generals, but W&L had more points over fences which broke the tie at Zone and National finals.

Among the top performers was first-year Lexie Paxton (Rockbridge Baths, Va./Rockbridge County) who placed first in the novice on the flat and second in the novice over fences. Junior Charlotte Radcliffe (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) notched a first-place performance in the intermediate on the flat and added a sixth-place showing in the intermediate over fences.

First-year Sarah Verga (Newton, Mass./Newton South) secured the final first-place finish for W&L in the walk-trot-canter. First-year Sam Johnson (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day) contributed second- and fifth-place efforts in the open equitation over fences and open equitation on the flat, respectively, while sophomore Mischa Biszick (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) tied Paxton for second in the novice over fences.

The Generals will next compete in the Hollins/W&L IHSA Invitational on Saturday, February 23, at 10:00 am.
