Generals tie for fourth at Sweet Briar/Lynchburg IHSA Invitational

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Washington and Lee riding team placed in a tie for fourth place at the Sweet Briar/Lynchburg IHSA Invitational on Saturday.

Regional high point rider leader first-year Sam Johnson (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day) won the first Open class and placed second in the next to claim her third overall tricolor in the last three outings. Four more top-three finishes of the 10 placings put the Generals in a three-way tie for third on the day with 32 points. Johnson extended her lead in the Cacchione regional high point rider standings on the basis of her strong finishes in the Open division.

Among other strong performances were second-place showings from junior Charlotte Radcliffe (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) and sophomore Liza Aldridge (Durham, N.C./Durham Academy), who tallied one second-place finish each in the intermediate over fences and advanced walk-trot-canter, respectively.

First-year Lexie Paxton (Rockbridge Baths, Va./Rockbridge County) and junior Allison Carmody (Clive, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) rounded out the top-three finishers for W&L, with Paxton placing third in the novice over fences and Carmody in the walk-trot.

This concludes the Generals' fall portion of the schedule. W&L will return to action on February 10 at the Randolph IHSA Invitational.
