Riding team at Bridgewater/JMU IHSA Invitational

WEYERS CAVE, Va. – The Washington and Lee riding team finished in first place out of eight teams at the Bridgewater/JMU IHSA Invitational on Saturday.

Nine top-three placings, including four wins, and awards in 13 of 15 classes helped the Generals maintain the lead throughout the day and clinch top team honors over Randolph and Hollins and to move up to third place regionally. First-year Sam Johnson (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day) earned high point rider honors after finishing first in the open equitation on the flat and third in the open equitation over fences.

Among other first-place Generals were juniors Allison Carmody (Clive, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) and Dani Powers (McKenney, Va./Dinwiddie). Carmody was first in the walk trot and Powers placed first in the beginner walk trot canter.

First-year Lexie Paxton (Rockbridge Baths, Va./Rockbridge County) and senior Elise George (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) rounded out the top finishers for W&L as Paxton placed second in the novice equitation over fences and third in the novice equitation on the flat. George added a second-place showing in the open equitation on the flat.
