W&L Riding Finishes Seventh at Sweet Briar/Lynchburg IHSA Invite

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Washington and Lee equestrian team finished in seventh place out of 12 teams with 24 points at the Sweet Briar/Lynchburg IHSA Invitational at the Rogers Riding Center on Sunday.

W&L placed in eight out of the 10 events and had five Top 3 finishes.

Sophomore Jane Chiavelli (Ashland, Mass. / St. Mark's School) qualified for Regionals after winning the intermediate equitation on the flat.

Junior Caleigh Wells (Calabasas, Calif. / Louisville) finished second in the open equitation on the flat, and first-years Elise George (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Catholic) and Sarah Walters (Glen Arm, Md. / McDonogh School) also recorded second-place showings in events. George took second in the intermediate equitation over fences and Walters placed second in the novice equitation over fences.

Sophomore Parrish Preston (Nashville, Tenn. / Montgomery Bell Academy) finished third in the walk-trot.

The Blue and White currently sit in seventh place in the Regional Team Standings with 159 points.

The Generals return to action on Saturday, when they compete at the Bridgewater IHSA Invitational.
