WINNECONNE, Wis. — Racing against one of the most competitive fields of the season, the 33rd-ranked Washington and Lee men's cross country team finished 19th of 50 teams at the Kollege Town Pre-National Meet hosted by UW-Oshkosh on Saturday. The Generals also sent a group of individuals to the Gettysburg Invitational.
The race featured 17 of the Top 35 teams in the most recent USTFCCCA National Poll. Top-ranked North Central (Ill.) took first with 41 points, sixth-ranked Washington University was second (97 points) and ninth-ranked Calvin placed third with 127 points. The Generals totaled 547 points.
Senior Alex Dolwick (Apex, N.C./GRACE Christian School) finished 64th out of 344 runners on the 8k course with a time of 26:15.20. Junior Austin Kinne (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley) placed 68th in 26:17.10, while first-year Ethan Bernstein (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) took 125th (26:44.00).
Senior Hank Patrick (Baton Rouge, La./University Laboratory School) was 136th (26:47.60) and first-year Drew Woodfolk (Kingwood, Texas/St. John's School) rounded out the scoring in 155th (26:57.60). Woodfolk set a new personal best in the 8k by over a minute. His previous best time was 28:17.00 set on September 8.
Senior Dhruvil Patel of North Central was the top individual in 25:03.50.
At the Gettysburg Invitational, the Blue and White had three runners in action. First-year Nick Watson (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Academy) was 127th out of 276 runners on the 8k course with a time of 29:19.10. Senior Joe Carmody (Clive, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) finished 150th (30:00.00) and sophomore Christian Hanna (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) placed 197th (31:11.60).
The Generals next compete at the ODAC Championship on Saturday, October 27 at the Kernstown Battlefield. W&L will be looking to win its fourth straight conference championship.
