INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released on Saturday the individuals who qualified for the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Men's Track and Field Championship, and Washington and Lee senior Drew Pranka (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) earned a spot in the 400m hurdles.
Out of the 20 competitors to qualify in the event, Pranka has the 17th-fastest time at 53.35. He registered the time at the Mount Olive First Chance and Multi Meet on May 10. Pranka also broke his own school record in the event with that mark.
Junior Troyer Connor of Mount Union has the fastest time in the event at 51.87. This is the first time Pranka has qualified for an NCAA Track and Field Championship.
Pranka is the first W&L men's track and field athlete to qualify in the 400m hurdles and is the first to qualify for the National Meet since Mac Strehler '17 took 18th in the 10,000m in 2017.
The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship will be held on May 25-27 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Pranka will compete in the prelims of the 400m hurdles on Thursday at 4:40 pm. If he advances to the finals, they will take place on Saturday at 2:25 pm.
