NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its all-region honorees for the 2018-19 NCAA Division III indoor track and field season on Monday, and the Washington and Lee men's team had seven athletes earn laurels in the South/Southeast Region.
Junior Donovan Fiore (Gilbert, Ariz./Chandler Prep Academy) garnered the recognition in three events (200m, 400m, & 4x400m Relay). His best time in the 200m was a time of 22.13, while his mark in the 400m was 49.37. Fiore, along with seniors Carter Huffman (Sophia, N.C./South Western Randolph) and Drew Pranka (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) and sophomore Alexander Caines (Hanover Park. Ill./Lake Park) combined to form the 4x400m relay, which registered a time of 3:22.49 to secure all-region recognition for all four members of the squad.
Senior Hank Patrick (Baton Rouge, La./University Laboratory School) attained his accolade in the 3,000m (8:42.33). First-year Nick Greenberg (Allen, Texas/The Episcopal School of Dallas) received an all-region honor in the long jump with his school-record leap of 6.94m (22'9,25"), and first-year Joe O'Connor (Henrico, Va./Douglas Freeman) garnered his distinction in the pole vault, clearing 4.56m (14'11.50").
This is the second straight season Fiore, Caines and Huffman have received indoor all-region laurels, and the first indoor recognition for Patrick, Pranka, Greenberg and O'Connor. Since the Indoor NCAA Championship is on a banked track this year, all runners' times were converted if they recorded the times on a flat track. To be named all-region, an athlete must either have finished in the Top 5 of an individual event or have been part of a Top 3 relay in the region.
The Generals claimed their third straight Indoor ODAC title on February 24 and open the outdoor season on March 15-16 by hosting the W&L Carnival.
