KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The United Soccer Coaches released its final NCAA Division III Men's Soccer National Coaches' Poll on Tuesday, and the Washington and Lee men's soccer team was ranked No. 23.
Messiah (16-0-3) remained atop the latest rankings, followed by Tufts (13-0-3), Chicago (15-2-1), Calvin (16-1-0) and Trinity (Texas) (15-1-3) to round out the Top 5. The Generals (14-3-1) re-enter the national rankings for the first time since the beginning of the 2018 season when they were ranked 14th in the preseason poll.
W&L won its fifth ODAC Tournament Championship this past Sunday with a 3-0 defeat of Bridgewater at Watt Field. The Generals tallied all three goals in a 13-minute span in the second half, courtesy of senior midfielders Viktor Dolberg (Clovis, Calif./Floyd B. Buchanan) and Dylan Ritch (Mint Hill, N.C./Independence) in the 53rd and 60th minutes, respectively, and capped off by a goal from sophomore defender Erik Recke (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) in the 66th minute.
The Generals are the only ODAC representative in the latest poll, and jumped up to third in the South Atlantic Region, with Lynchburg finishing the season seventh in the region.
W&L earned the ODAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament and will face No. 25 Johns Hopkins in the First Round on Saturday at 2:30 pm at Messiah College.
