HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Senior midfielder Andrew Kim (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) tallied the game's lone goal in the 23rd minute to give the Washington and Lee men's soccer team a 1-0 victory at Hampden-Sydney in ODAC action on Tuesday night at Hellmuth-Gibson Field.
Kim tallied the game-winner for the Generals (12-3-1, 7-2) at the 23:28 mark off of a penalty kick after a W&L player was pulled down in the box.
Senior goalkeeper Gillen Beck (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) made two key saves in the final minute of play to keep Hampden-Sydney (10-6-1, 5-4) from finding an equalizer and to give W&L its fifth-straight victory
For the game, W&L held a 10-6 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks. Beck played all 90 minutes for the Generals and made three stops. First-year goalkeeper Gray Sutter played 59:23 and made four saves for the Tigers, while senior Amal Riley saw action in the final 30:37 and made two stops.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it hosts an ODAC quarterfinals match. The time and opponent are to be determined.
