LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team is set to host the third annual Virginia Lacrosse the Nations Cup when it hosts Christopher Newport on Wednesday, February 13 at 7:00 pm.
The LtN Cup is used to raise awareness for Lacrosse the Nations and encourage other people from around the country to join Team LtN. Founded in 2009, Lacrosse the Nations is an organization that uses lacrosse and other physical activities to teach important life skills and help improve education and health while creating opportunity and hope for children in need.
Both Washington and Lee Head Coach Gene McCabe and Christopher Newport Head Coach Mikey Thompson serve on the LtN Board of Directors and have helped raise funds for the organization while also participating in volunteer trips to Nicaragua and Panama. The LtN Cup serves as an annual kickoff for each program's fundraising campaign while helping highlight the power of sports to change the world.
Along with bragging rights, the LtN Cup will be awarded to the winning team's captains and remain with the program until next season's contest. The Generals won the inaugural battle in 2016 by a score of 14-6. Christopher Newport took last season's contest, 12-7.
