LEXINGTON, Va. – The Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) announced its 2018 Division III All-Region teams on Monday evening and Washington and Lee had several players recognized on the All-South Region squads.

Junior attackman A.J. Witherell (Wilmington, Del. / Salesianum) was named to the first team, senior defenseman Kyle Gifford (Darien, Conn. / Darien) was selected to the second team, and sophomore midfielders Hudson Hamill (Darien, Conn. / Darien) and Jack Hodgson (Richmond, Va. / St. Christopher's) were both tabbed to the honorable mention team.

Witherell, who was named the IMLCA South Region Offensive Player of the Year a season ago, adds the all-region honor to a 2018 list that already includes USILA First Team All-America and First Team All-ODAC laurels.

The 2017 & 2018 ODAC Player of the Year, Witherell completed the greatest offensive season ever produced by a General during the 2018 campaign.  He broke his own school record for season scoring, totaling 91 points on a W&L record-tying 60 goals and 31 assists.  Additionally, he posted 43 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers.  Witherell tallied at least one point in every game he played (19 games) and had 15 games of four or more points, including a season-best seven points on four occasions.

A third team USILA All-American last season, Witherell currently sits in a tie for second on the school's all-time scoring list with 234 points, and he ranks fourth all-time in goals (145) and eighth in assists (89).

Gifford adds his all-region accolade to a season list that already includes First Team All-ODAC, USILA Honorable Mention All-America and Scholar All-America honors.  He started 19 contests and anchored a defense that led the ODAC in scoring defense with an 8.20 goals-against average.  He tallied 22 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers, to go along with one goal.  A two-time First Team All-ODAC pick and three-time all-conference selection overall, Gifford played in 72 career games, totaling 76 ground balls and 47 caused turnovers across his four seasons.

Hamill was a First Team All-ODAC choice in 2018 after finishing third on the team in scoring with 48 points on 16 goals and a team-leading 32 assists.  He started all 20 games and chipped in 33 ground balls as well.

Hodgson is a two-time First Team All-ODAC selection and a 2018 USILA Honorable Mention All-American.  He set a new W&L record for faceoff wins during the 2018 campaign, winning 261-of-400 (.653) draws.  He also picked up 118 ground balls and tallied eight points on six goals and two assists.  In just two seasons, Hodgson already ranks fifth on the school's career faceoff wins list (486) and is second in career faceoff percentage (.652).

Washington and Lee completed the 2018 season with a 15-5 overall record and a perfect 9-0 mark in ODAC play.  The Generals produced a 14-game winning streak, tied for the second-longest in program history.  W&L received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the third round, before falling to Dickinson, 10-9, in overtime.
