W&L Men's Lax Erupts for a 13-7 Win Over Kenyon

LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee used a five-goal run across the third and fourth periods to produce a 13-7 victory over Kenyon in men's lacrosse on Tuesday evening at Wilson Field.

The Generals (3-4) trailed 4-3 following the first quarter, but successive goals by senior midfielder Drew Koeneman (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) and sophomore attackman Mac Means (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) gave W&L a 5-4 lead at the break.

A goal by junior midfielder Max Olson (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge) pulled Kenyon even at 5-5 just 2:02 into the third period, but W&L used the aforementioned spurt to take a 10-5 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Senior midfielder Drew Mancini (Hillsborough, Calif./Deerfield Academy) got the rally started with an unassisted goal at the 11:20 mark and sophomore attackman Jack Switala (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) followed with a goal off an assist from senior attackman Spence Daw (Phoenix, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) at the 7:12 mark for a 7-5 lead.  Daw then scored man-up from Koeneman just 27 seconds later and a Means goal off a Daw feed another minute later gave W&L a 9-5 advantage.  Switala ended the barrage with an unassisted goal man-up just 1:35 into the fourth quarter for a 10-5 lead.

The Lords (1-3) crawled back to within 11-7 on a man-up goal by sophomore midfielder Chris Pappalardo (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) off a feed from first-year attackman Will Lowe (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park), but could get no closer as the Generals defeated the Lords for the fourth-straight time in the series.

Washington and Lee out-shot Kenyon by a count of 51-25 and forced 24 Lord turnovers.  Daw and Switala paced the Generals' offense with three goals and two assists each, while sophomore midfielder Cooper Brown (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) notched two goals and one helper.  Koeneman had one goal and two assists, and senior goalkeeper Jason Lumpkin (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) recorded 10 saves in 60 minutes between the pipes.  Sophomore defenseman Joe LaSala (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) led the W&L defense with six caused turnovers.
