NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) released its 2019 Team Academic Awards on Wednesday, and Washington and Lee was one of 32 men's golf programs nationally to receive the President's Special Recognition by the organization.

A total of 193 men's golf programs were cited for the Team Academic Award, which honors teams from NCAA Divisions I, II and III, along with NAIA, NJCAA I and NJCAA II who have achieved a team grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher for the 2018-19 school year.

The Generals were one of just 28 NCAA Division III men's teams recognized with the Team Academic Award, and W&L received the President's Special Recognition for having a team GPA of at least 3.5. Only eight schools from Division III earned the special recognition as W&L and Webster were the only ones to participate in the NCAA Division III Championship this past season.

Newberry, from NCAA Division II, posted the highest overall team GPA for all divisions with a 3.84. W&L finished the school year with a 3.54.

Earlier this summer, rising senior Brian Peccie (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) earned VaSID Player of the Year honors and was also named a PING First Team All-American, both for the second consecutive year. Peccie also claimed CoSIDA/Google Cloud First Team Academic All-America At-Large laurels

The Generals finished the 2018-19 season in a tie for 19th out of 42 teams at the NCAA Division III Championship.
