W&L Men's Golf Resides in 21st After Day 1 of NCAA's

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – The 10th-ranked Washington and Lee men's golf team sits in a tie for 21st out of 42 teams after the first day of competition at the NCAA Division III Championship held at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Ky., on Tuesday.

Third-ranked Illinois Wesleyan leads the field after the Titans posted a -1 score of 287.  Concordia (Texas), ranked 29th, sits in second with a 288 (E). 

The Generals registered a 312 (+24) and are tied with 16th-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan for 21st overall.

Sam Goldenring of Williams is the individual leader after the first round, posting a 69 (-3) that leads a group of five players that shot 70 (-2).

Leading the way for W&L are juniors Brian Peccie (Norfolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy) and Sean Puleo (Albany, N.Y. / Albany Academy), who are tied for 41st out of 216 golfers with a +3 score of 75.

Junior Robert Quinilty (Cypress, Texas / Houston Christian) and first-year Austin Sharrett (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Latin) are tied for 140th with a +9 score of 81, while junior Boyd Peete (Henrico, Va. / St. Christopher's) carded an 83 (+11) and is tied for 164th overall.

Action continues on Wednesday with the second round from Keene Trace.  The Generals tee off at 7:30 am.
