SAVANNAH, Ga. – Junior Brian Peccie (Norfolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy) ranks third overall and the Washington and Lee men's golf team sits in 15th-place out of 18 teams after the first day of competition on Saturday at the Invitation at Savannah Harbor hosted by William & Mary.
Against almost exclusively Division I competition, the Generals carded a 309-293—602 (+26) through two rounds on Saturday. Austin Peay leads the event with a score of 298-280—578 (+2). Jacksonville State and North Dakota State are both tied for second with a score of 581 (+5).
Individually, Peccie shot a 72-69—141 (-3) and trails the leader, Evan Davis of Belmont, by just two strokes. Davis holds the lead with a 69-70—139 (-5), while Andrew Israelson of North Dakota State is second with a 72-68—140 (-4).
W&L junior Boyd Peete (Henrico, Va. / St. Christopher's) carded a +7 score of 76-75—151 and is tied for 57th out of the 95 golfers in the tournament. Junior Robert Quinilty (Cypress, Texas / Houston Christian) and first-year Austin Sharrett (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Latin) both shot +11 and are tied for 83rd. Quinilty shot 80-75—155 and Sharrett posted an 81-74—155.
First-year John Schindler (Vienna, Va. / Langley) rounded out the Generals in the field, shooting 86-79—165 for 95th-place.
Action continues on Sunday with the final round from the Savannah Harbor Golf Club.
