INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has announced the field for the 2018 Division III Men's Golf Championship and Washington and Lee is one of the 42 schools selected to the field.
The Generals were one of seven schools to receive a Pool C at-large bid, while two others were selected from Pool B, to go along with the 33 automatic qualifiers. Six individuals were also selected to push the total field to 216 golfers.
W&L is making its third straight appearance in the NCAA Championship with the second at-large bid in program history. The Generals received an at-large bid last season and placed 14th out of 42 teams at the 2017 NCAA Championship. The Generals also tied for third out of 41 teams at the 2016 NCAA Championship.
Washington and Lee is ranked 14th in the 2018 GolfStat Division III rankings and placed second at the 2018 ODAC Championship. The Generals have three All-ODAC golfers that will compete for the NCAA title in 2018, including sophomore Brian Peccie (Norfolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy), who was named the ODAC Player of the Year. Sophomore Sean Puleo (Albany, N.Y. / Albany Academy) also garnered First Team All-ODAC honors, while senior Luke Farley (Durham, N.C. / Trinity School) was a second team selection.
All three players are ranked in the Top 60 of Division III. Peccie claims a 72.88 stroke average and is ranked fourth nationally. Puleo is ranked 35th and carries a 73.88 scoring average, and Farley is ranked 58th in Division III and he has a 74.81 scoring average.
The 2018 NCAA Championship will be held on May 15-18 at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
