JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The ninth-ranked Washington and Lee men's golf team shot a 292 (+4) and sits in fourth-place out of 30 teams after the first round at the Jekyll Island Invitational held at the Pine Lakes Golf Club on Friday.
The Tournament features 20 of the top 50 teams in Division III, including fourth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan, which leads the field with an even-par score of 288. Unranked Kenyon is second with a 290 (+2), while 22nd-ranked Southwestern is third with a 291 (+3). W&L sits in fourth, while fifth-ranked Methodist is fifth with a 293 (+5).
Individually, W&L sophomore Brian Peccie (Norfolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy) is tied for sixth out of 150 golfers after carding a 69 (-3). Oglethorpe's Jacob Arnett and Guilford's James Mishoe are tied for the individual lead with matching -5 rounds of 67.
Sophomore Robert Quinilty (Cypress, Texas / Houston Christian) also fired an under-par round for the Generals, sitting in a tie for 11th overall with a 71 (-1). Classmate Sean Puleo (Albany, N.Y. / Albany Academy) is in a tie for 28th with a 74 (+2), while senior Luke Farley (Durham, N.C. / Trinity School) posted a 78 (+6) that is tied for 89th overall.
Senior Andrew Barth (Bethesda, Md. / Walt Whitman) posted an 82 (+10) and is tied for 133rd overall.
Action continues on Saturday with the second of three rounds from Jekyll Island.
