AMHERST, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's golf team finished fourth out of 11 teams while playing as a "B" team at the Lynchburg College Invitational held at the Poplar Grove Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.
Methodist's "B" team took the team title with a two-day score of 290-296—586 (+10). York College of Pennsylvania finished second with a score of 300-317—617 (+41) and Lynchburg was third with a 307-313—620 (+44). The Generals' "B" squad finished with a 307-314—621 (+45) to take fourth.
Methodist's Tyler Vincent was the individual medalist, carding a -1 score of 71-72—143.
Washington and Lee junior Hayden Combs (Kennett, Mo. / Memphis University School) finished tied for fourth out of the 66 golfers at the event with a +5 score of 74-75—149.
First-year Sean Puleo (Albany, N.Y. / Albany Academy) tied for 27th with a 78-80—158 (+14), while senior Cody Solomon (Peachtree Corners, Ga. / Wesleyan School) and junior Eric Wirth (Morgantown, W.Va. / University) tied for 33rd overall. Solomon shot 78-83—161 (+17) and Wirth posted a score of 83-78—161 (+17).
First-year Boyd Peete (Henrico, Va. / St. Christopher's) and senior Spencer Payne (Davenport, Iowa / Pleasant Valley) rounded up the Generals' competitors on Tuesday. Peete fired an 82-81—163 (+19) to place 40th, while Payne tallied 89-88—177 (+33) to tie for 54th.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Sunday when it takes part in the Grandover Match Play Invitational held at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
