ROBINSONVILLE, Miss. – The Washington and Lee men's golf team finished third out of 17 teams at the Rhodes Fall Classic held on Sunday and Monday at Tunica National in Robinsonville, Miss.
The 22nd-ranked Generals followed their opening round 300 with a 294 on Monday to climb into third place overall with a +18 score of 594. Berry, ranked 11th in the Golfstat rankings, finished as the team champion with a +5 score of 288-293—581. Southwestern, ranked 18th, finished second with a 288-304—592. Emory, Centre and seventh-ranked Texas-Tyler all tied for fourth with identical scores of 302-294—596.
Individually, W&L claimed two of the top four golfers as sophomores Luke Farley (Durham, N.C. / Trinity School) and Hayden Combs (Kennett, Mo. / Memphis University School) both tied for second overall out of 93 golfers. Farley carded six birdies on the day and finished with a 74-71—145 (+1). Combs posted an even-par score on Monday to complete the tournament with a 73-72—145 (+1). Berry's Ryan Elmore finished as the individual medalist with a -1 score of 70-73—143.
Junior Cody Solomon (Peachtree Corners, Ga. / Wesleyan School) and sophomore Eric Wirth (Morgantown, W.Va. / University) both tied for 46th-place, while junior Conley Hurst (Little Rock, Ark. / Episcopal) tied for 52nd. Solomon shot 78-77—155 and Wirth finished with an 81-74—155. Hurst posted a two-day score of 75-81—156.
Washington and Lee will return to action on October 5-6 when it participates in the Oglethorpe Royal Lakes Invitational in Flowery Branch, Ga.
