W&L Golf Wraps up Play at Jekyll Island Collegiate

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee golf team carded a final round 303 to finish in a tie for 13th place at the three-day Jekyll Island Collegiate held at the Oleander Course in Jekyll Island, Ga.

The Generals posted a three-day score of 300-315-303--918 in finishing tied with LaGrange at 54 over par for the tournament. Methodist won the team event with an even par score of 291-283-290--864. Chris DeJohn of Skidmore and Josh Speight of Methodist shared medalist honors as they each notched a three-day total of 213 (-3). DeJohn shot 67-74-72, while Speight fired rounds of 75-70-68.

 W&L was led by junior Tim Gavrich (Avon, Conn./Westminster) and senior Robert Womble (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton), who both tied for 43rd overall with a final three-day score of 229 (+13). Gavrich carded rounds of 76-74-79, while Womble shot 77-80-72.

Sophomore Wilson Anthony (Fordyce, Ark./Episcopal) finished in a tie for 54th with scores of 81-78-72--229, senior Matt Langan (Prospect, Ky./Trinity) fired rounds of 75-83-80--238 to finish in a tie for 84th and senior Joe Gibson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) rounded out W&L’s scorers with a 72-84-86--242 and finished in a tie for 98th place.

W&L returns to action on Friday, when it competes on day one of the Marine Corps Intercollegiate in Camp Lejeune, N.C.
