MORRISTOWN, N.J. — Senior guard Devin Kearns (Cibolo, Texas/Samuel Clemens) had 19 points and six assists to lead the Washington and Lee men's basketball team to an 82-72 win over Dickinson at the Rose City Classic on Friday at the College of Saint Elizabeth.

The two teams were tied, 15-15, through 10 minutes of the opening half, but back-to-back triples by first-year guard Tevin Panchal (Belmont, Calif./Spire Academy) and Kearns gave the Generals (2-0) a 21-15 advantage with 9:01 remaining in the first.

Following a missed jumper by the Red Devils (0-2), senior forward Roy McMillan (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) made a layup, and then a jumper by senior guard Alex Starr (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) stretched the W&L lead to double digits (25-15) with 7:40 on the clock. Dickinson trimmed the margin to three, 32-29, with 2:39 remaining in the period, but the Blue and White went on a 5-2 run to enter intermission with a six-point advantage (37-31).

A 5-0 run by sophomore guard William Brueggeman (Houston, Texas/Strake Jesuit College Prep) in the first minute of the second half extended the Generals' lead to 11 (42-31). The margin was eight points, 44-36, with 17:03 left in the contest, but then W&L went on a 10-0 spurt over the next four minutes of action to push the lead to 54-36 at the 13:44 mark.

Consecutive layups by the Red Devils cut the deficit to 14 with 13 minutes left in the game, but then a layup by Kearns, a three-pointer by first-year guard Mark Lamendola (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) and a layup by McMillan pushed the Blue and White's advantage to 61-40 with 11:18 on the clock. Dickinson whittled away at the lead over the final 10 minutes, but the margin did not drop below seven points, as W&L held on for the 10-point victory.

Kearns went 13-of-15 from the foul line on his way to his season-high 19 points. He also had two steals and two rebounds. McMillan registered his second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Brueggeman contributed 14 points and four rebounds.
