Franz & Ey Earn Men's Basketball All-ODAC Honors

FOREST, Va. — Washington and Lee first-year forward Andrew Franz (Charlotte, N.C./Ravenscroft) was named the 2013 Men's Basketball ODAC Rookie of the Year and senior forward J.D. Ey (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) earned Second Team All-ODAC honors as announced by the league on Thursday.

Franz becomes the second ODAC Rookie of the Year in program history and the first since Rich Peterson received the honor in 1997. In his first season, Franz played in 25 of the team's 26 games, including 14 starts. He averaged 11.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game. He shot 46.6 percent (111-238) from the field, 38.5 percent (30-78) from behind the arc and 66.2 percent (43-65) from the charity stripe.

In conference contests, he upped his numbers to 13.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Franz tallied a season-high and team-high 27 points in a 74-44 home victory over Emory & Henry on February 6. He also totaled a season-high eight rebounds three times and a season-high seven assists twice.

Ey earned his third All-ODAC honor and made the second team for the second consecutive season. Ey leads the league in rebounds (9.7) and blocks (2.1) per game. He also leads the ODAC in offensive rebounds (78), defensive rebounds (173) and total rebounds (251). He also led W&L in assists (3.1) and steals (1.7) per game, while averaging 10.2 points per game.

This season, Ey eclipsed the 1,000-point barrier for his career and finished with 1,023, which is 20th in program history. He also had 839 rebounds, 243 assists, 167 blocks and 141 steals in his career. He is the only player in W&L history with at least 1,000 points, 800 rebounds, 200 assists, 150 blocks and 100 steals.

Senior guard Colton Hunt of Randolph earned the Kurt Axe Memoria Player of the Year, Clay Nunley of Randolph was the Bob Johnson Coach of the Year and Hunt was named the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete award.

The Generals' season ended on Tuesday when they lost to Eastern Mennonite in the first round of the ODAC Tournament at the Warner Center.
