BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Despite taking 15 shots, the Washington and Lee field hockey team was shut out by McDaniel, 2-0, on Sunday in a neutral-site contest at Bridgewater.
The Green Terror (5-0) opened the scoring in the 19th minute on a goal by sophomore forward Gabrielle Yore (Olney, Md./Sherwood). The ball was played into the circle and Yore tallied the score from five yards out.
McDaniel scored its second goal of the game with 1:34 left in the opening half. Yore fired a shot, which hit the left post, and then senior midfielder Sara Reynolds (York, Pa./Central York) collected the rebound and knocked the ball in on the left side.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jacqueline Llewellyn (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) played the entire contest for the Generals (2-3), making nine saves. First-year Christina Gooding (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) earned the shut out for the Green Terror with seven saves.
First-year midfielder Audrey Brady (Far Hills, N.J./Brooks School) led W&L in shots with five, including three on goal. McDaniel took 17 shots compared to 15 for the Blue and White, but the Generals led in penalty corners, 13-6.
W&L returns to action on Saturday at Christopher Newport at 2:00 pm.
