  • Numerous W&L Students Earn Winter Scholar-Athlete Awards

    Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced that 205 students earned Scholar-Athlete awards during the recently completed winter term. The students are all members of W&L athletic teams and achieved a grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.500.

    The National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced the 2015 ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction on Wednesday, and Washington and Lee first-year midfielder Kendall Bernard (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) was one 191 athletes selected.

    Junior forward Maggie Waxter (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park Country School) scored off a penalty corner in the 38th minute to lead the Washington and Lee field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Bridgewater on Saturday at the W&L Turf Field. With the victory, the Generals (10-6, 6-1 ODAC) have clinched the top seed in the ODAC Tournament.

    Junior forward Maggie Waxter (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park Country School) scored 2:23 into overtime to give the Washington and Lee field hockey team a 3-2 victory over 12th-ranked Catholic on Monday at the W&L Turf Field. Waxter scored all three goals for W&L, which marked the second hat trick of her career.
