W&L Field Hockey Drops a 3-0 Decision to Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee field hockey team dropped its second straight contest, falling to Lynchburg College by a score of 3-0 on Saturday at Shellenberger Field.

The Generals (4-3, 0-1) held advantages in both shots (15-11) and penalty corners (8-3), but simply could not slip one past Lynchburg (3-4, 1-0) sophomore goalkeeper Beka Hess.

The Hornets got on the board at the 11:37 mark of the first half when senior attacker Kelsey Link found the goal unassisted.

LC carried the 1-0 lead into the half and expanded on its lead at the 51:43 mark when junior attacker Taylor Quillen scored on a shot that deflected off the pads of W&L junior goalkeeper Megan Axelrod (Denver, Colo. / Kent Denver School).

Lynchburg put the game away in the 65th-minute when junior attacker Morgan Lammando added an unassisted tally for the final margin.

Axelrod played all 70 minutes in cage and recorded five saves.  Hess notched seven saves in goal to help lead the Hornets to their ninth straight win over the Generals.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it hosts St. Mary's (Md.) for a 2:00 pm contest.
