FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its 2019 all-conference baseball teams on Friday, and Washington and Lee junior right fielder Ryan Monson (Frisco, Texas/Wakeland) earned third team accolades.
Monson garners his first career All-ODAC honor after leading the Generals with a .367 batting average this season on a team-high 51 hits in 139 at-bats. His average currently ranks 10th in the ODAC, and he drove in a team-best 28 runs this year. Monson got on base at a .416 clip, second highest on the team, and notched a team-high .482 slugging percentage. His .367 batting average helped the team finish the season with a .301 batting average, the highest mark since the 2013 squad hit .313 for the year.
The junior began the 2019 campaign with a 14-game hitting streak, the longest stretch of the season among his teammates. A starter in right field for all 34 games in 2019, Monson hit safely in 31 contests this season and tallied multiple hits in 15 games, including three or more hits on four occasions.
Defensively, Monson was not only one of the best fielders for the Generals, but one of the top defenders in the conference. He is currently one of 11 players in the ODAC with a perfect fielding percentage, while his 92 total chances is third among the players who have yet to commit an error. Monson also displayed a strong arm in right field, throwing out five runners this season.
Randolph-Macon claimed three of the five major conference awards, with junior third baseman Mike Nickles and senior pitcher Nick Roth claiming the Player and Pitcher of the Year awards, respectively, while head coach Ray Hedrick earned Coach of the Year honors. Lynchburg first-year third baseman/pitcher Garrett Jackson was named the Rookie of the Year and Roanoke senior third baseman Jack Howard secured the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.
The Generals finished the 2019 season with a 14-20 overall record, with an 8-14 mark in the ODAC.
