W&L Men's Swimming Continues to Be Recognized on National Level

Lexington, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's swimming team was recently recognized by CollegeSwimming.com on the individual and team level. Senior Alex Sweet (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) was named the Division III National Swimmer of the Week for the week ending Jan. 27, while the team is now ranked seventh in Division III.

In a 153-109 loss to third-ranked Johns Hopkins on Saturday, Sweet posted two first-place finishes and swam on the winning 200 free relay (1:24.74). He finished first in the 50 free in an NCAA "B" cut time of 20.79 and also won the 100 free in a time of 46.78.

Sweet has already qualified for the 2008 NCAA Championships in two events as he owns the nation's-best time in the 50 free (20.43) and the second-best time in the 100 free (45.15).

The Generals, who moved up a spot in this edition of the national poll, are currently 9-1 and take on Division I Virginia Tech on Friday night at 7:30 pm.
