Howard Dobbins '41, '42L

Howard Dobbins was one of the top multi-sport athletes at Washington and Lee during the early 1940’s.

As a center in basketball, Dobbins finished second on the team in scoring his final three seasons, earning second team all-state honors as a sophomore and senior, and garnering first team all-state accolades as a junior when he helped lead W&L to a 13-5 overall record and a state championship.

While playing end in football, Dobbins earned honorable mention all-state laurels as a junior before having his senior season hampered by a knee injury.

A member of Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa, Dobbins was also involved in many additional campus activities, including serving as the secretary of the monogram club, chairman of the Freshman Assimilation Committee, editor of the W&L Law Review, member of the University Athletic Committee, chairman of the Honor Committee and student body president as a law school senior.
