FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its athletes of the week for the week ending November 18, and Washington and Lee’s Emily Hageboeck (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) and Patrick Sullivan (Pawleys Island, S.C./Waccamaw) were named the Swimmers of the Week.
This is the second time this season that Hageboeck and Sullivan have claimed Swimmer of the Week honors, after the duo secured the ODAC’s first weekly awards of 2018-19.
A junior, Hageboeck guided the Washington and Lee women's swimming team to a first-place finish at the 13-team Franklin & Marshall Invitational over the weekend, as she totaled three individual wins and was part of three winning relays. Her individual wins came in the 100 (1:04.88) and 200 breaststroke races (2:18.42), and the 200 individual medley (2:08.88). She swam on the winning 200 (1:46.74) and 400 medley relays (3:53.35) and the 800 freestyle relay (7:48.71).
Hageboeck swam the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:17.04 in the prelims on Saturday, which is currently the fastest time in Division III, while her time of 2:08.88 in the 200 individual medley ranks 12th in the nation.
Sullivan, a sophomore, highlighted Washington and Lee's fourth-place finish at F&M over the weekend. He helped the 400 medley relay to a win in a time of 3:24.90, which currently ranks seventh in the nation. He swam on the second-place 200 medley relay (1:34.05) and finished second individually in the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:37.30, good for 11th in Division III.
Sullivan placed third in the 200 freestyle (1:42.67), after swimming a 1:41.45 time in the prelims, which is 10th-best in the nation. He added fourth-place efforts on the 200 (1:25.77) and 400 freestyle relays (3:09.82), and concluded his efforts with a fifth-place showing in the 50 freestyle (21.31).
The men’s and women’s swimming teams will be back in action on Saturday, December 1, when they host the W&L Invitational at the W&L Natatorium at 5:00 pm.
