W&L Finishes 17th in the Learfield IMG Director's Cup

LEXINGTON, Va. – The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) released the 2018-19 Learfield IMG Director's Cup spring standings on Thursday and Washington and Lee once again finished in the Top 20.

W&L placed 17th overall among the 448 current NCAA Division III schools with 576.0 overall points.  The Generals tallied 112.0 points during the fall, 112.0 points during the winter and 352.0 points across the spring season. 

Washington and Lee completed the 2017-18 school year with a program-record 13th-place finish, which topped the previous best finish of 19th during the 2003-04 school year.  The Generals finished 25th in the Director's Cup standings in 2016-17.

Directors' Cup points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports in NCAA postseason competition, measured by nine women's sports and nine men's sports.  All told, 332 Division III athletic programs accumulated at least 5.0 points to rank on the list.

Williams College posted 1117.0 points to edge Johns Hopkins (1083.75) for its 22nd Learfield Director's Cup in the last 24 years.  Washington University of St. Louis (1032.75), Middlebury (941.75) and Emory (921.50) rounded out the Top 5.

The Learfield Director's Cup has been presented every year since 1995-96 and the Generals have finished Top 50 in the standings 14 times, including each of the last five years.  W&L was 47th in 2014-15 and 28th in 2015-16.

Washington and Lee set a conference record with 13 ODAC Championships during the 2018-19 campaign, competing in NCAA Championship competition in 12 different sports during the course of the year. 

Overall, the Blue & White notched a 204-101-4 (.667) record while also claiming the ODAC Commissioner's Cup for the 17th year in a row.
