W&L CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES IN NCAA SOUTHEAST REGION
CHAMPIONSHIP
CLINTON, Miss. -- The Washington and Lee men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the NCAA South/Southeast Region championships on Saturday morning. The women placed 12th of 20 teams, while the men finished 14th of 18 squads.
Junior Burke Duncan (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) led the women’s squad with a ninth place finish out of 144 runners, completing the course in 19:02.2. Senior Lucy Rankin (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) placed 67th overall (21:03.5), while sophomore Vanessa Adams (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) finished the course in 21:10.5, placing 71st.
For the men, junior Will Teichman (High Point, N.C./T. Wingate Andrews) led the way with a 54th place finish out of 131 competitors. Teichman crossed the tape in 28:22.6. Senior Ken Jackman (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) placed 66th (28:54.3), while sophomore Andrew Fotinos (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) finished 76th (29:20.2).

W&L CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES IN ODAC CHAMPIONSHIP MEET
NORFOLK, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men’s and women’s cross country teams were in action Saturday afternoon, competing in the ODAC Championships. The men placed third of seven teams, while the women placed fourth of six teams.
Junior Burke Duncan (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) paced the
women’s squad by finishing second out of 57 runners with a
time of 19:12. Duncan was nine seconds behind the champion, Andrea
Good of Eastern Mennonite. Sophomore Vanessa Adams (Albuquerque,
N.M./Albuquerque Academy) placed 24th overall, crossing the tape in
21:28.
On the men’s side, junior Will Teichman (High Point, N.C./T.
Wingate Andrews) led the way with a 12th place finish out of 63
runners. Teichman finished the course in a season-best time of
27:12. Senior Ken Jackman (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) placed 20th
overall in a season-best time of 27:49. Bridgewater’s Ross
Bair won the men’s race in a time of 26:23.
Washington and Lee will return to action on November 10 as it
competes in the NCAA South/Southeast Regional at Mississippi
College. Action is set to begin at 11:00 am.

W&L MEN PLACE 13TH, WOMEN FINISH 17TH AT GETTYSBURG INVITATIONAL
GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee men’s and
women’s cross country teams were in action at the Gettysburg
Invitational on Saturday morning. The men finished 13th out of 25
teams with 377 points, while the women placed 17th out of 26 teams
with 486 points.
Leading the way for the W&L men was junior Will Teichman (High
Point, N.C./T. Wingate Andrews) who crossed the tape in 27:58.56
and placed 46th. Sophomore Andrew Fotinos (Kingwood,
Texas/Kingwood) finished 88th with a time of 28:51.68. Freshman
Steven Chambers (Christiana, Pa./Octorara Area) placed 91st in
28:54,20.
Leading the way for the women was junior Burke Duncan (Oklahoma
City, Okla./Casady) who placed eighth overall with a time of
18:35.80. Senior Lucy Rankin (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) crossed the
tape with a time of 21:15.03 to finish in 111th place. Sophomore
Vanessa Adams (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) finished in
120th place with a time of 21:21.84, while freshman Alexis
Fernandez (Freehold, N.J./Peddie School) turned in a 122nd place
finish with a time of 21:26.35.
Both the men and women will compete at the ODAC Championships next
Saturday.

W&L MEN AND WOMEN PLACE FOURTH AT STATE CROSS
COUNTRY MEET
BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men’s and women’s cross country teams were in action Saturday afternoon as the Generals participated in the Virginia State Championship Meet at Bridgewater College. The men placed fourth of 12 teams, while the women finished fourth of nine teams.
Leading the way for the men’s squad was junior Will Teichman (High Point, N.C./T. Wingate Andrews), who placed 23rd with a time of 29:13.90. Freshman Steven Chambers (Christiana, Pa./Octorara Area) placed 26th (29:26.00), while senior Ken Jackman (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) crossed the tape in 29:42.20 placing 31st.
In the women’s race, junior Burke Duncan (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) again led the way for the Generals, placing seventh overall with a time of 19:55.40. Senior Gretchen Tencza (South Meriden, Conn./Orville H. Platt) placed 25th (21:59.50), while freshman Alexis Fernandez (Freehold, N.J./Peddie School) and sophomore Vanessa Adams (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) placed 28th and 29th, respectively. Fernandez completed the course in 22:09.70, while Adams crossed the tape in 22:10.60.
Washington and Lee will return to action next Saturday as it competes in the Gettysburg Invitational. Action is set to begin at 10:30 am.

W&L MEN FINISH THIRD, WOMEN FINISH FOURTH AT ROANOKE CROSS COUNTRY INVITE
SALEM, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men’s and
women’s cross country teams were in action Saturday afternoon
at the Roanoke Invitational. The men placed third of 13 teams,
while the women finished fourth of 12 teams.
The men’s team was paced by sophomore Andy Schorr (Kingwood,
Texas/Kingwood), who finished fourth in the men’s competition
in a time of 26:42. Junior Will Teichman (High Point, N.C./T.
Wingate Andrews) placed 20th (28:14), while freshman Steven
Chambers (Christiana, Pa./Octorara Area) finished 30th with a time
of 28:56.
Leading the way for the women’s squad was junior Burke
Duncan (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady), who won the women’s
race in a time of 19:16. Senior Lucy Rankin (Atlanta,
Ga./Westminster) finished 25th overall in a time of 21:30 while
senior Gretchen Tencza (South Meriden, Conn./Orville H. Platt)
placed 34th with a time of 21:56.
Washington and Lee will be in action again on October 13 as it
competes in the Virginia State Meet.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men’s and women’s cross country teams were in action Saturday afternoon as the Generals hosted the W&L Invitational. The women placed second of five teams, while the men finished third of five teams.
Leading the way for the women’s squad was junior Burke
Duncan (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady), who won the women’s
race in a time of 20:29.83. Senior Gretchen Tencza (South Meriden,
Conn./Orville H. Platt) placed eighth of 44 runners (22:24.53),
while senior Lucy Rankin (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) finished 10th
overall in a time of 22:46.19.
The men’s team was paced by sophomore Andy Schorr (Kingwood,
Texas/Kingwood), who won the men’s competition in a time of
27:58.66. Junior Will Teichman (High Point, N.C./T. Wingate
Andrews) placed ninth of 51 runners (28:55.40), while senior Ken
Jackman (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) finished 14th in a time of
29:26.85.
Washington and Lee will be in action again on Sat., Sept. 29 as it
travels to the Roanoke Invitational.

W&L MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY FINISHES SECOND AT VIRGINIA WESLEYAN INVITATIONAL
NORFOLK, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men’s cross country
team had a successful debut to the 2001 season as it finished
second out of seven teams at the Va. Wesleyan Invitational on
Saturday morning. The Generals finished with 70 points.
Leading the way for W&L was sophomore Andy Schorr (Kingwood,
Texas/Kingwood) who finished third in the overall race with a time
of 27:32. Junior Will Teichman (High Point, N.C./T. Wingate
Andrews) crossed the tape in 29:03 and placed 12th, while freshman
Steven Chambers (Christiana, Pa./Octorara Area) finished 13th in
his first collegiate race with a time of 29:09.
Roanoke won the overall team title with 28 points.
Bridgewater’s Ross Bair was the individual champion.
W&L returns to action next Saturday as they host the Generals
Invitational at 10:00 am.

BURKE DUNCAN WINS TITLE AT VIRGINIA WESLEYAN INVITATIONAL
NORFOLK, Va. -- Washington and Lee junior Burke Duncan (Oklahoma
City, Okla./Casady) won the overall women’s cross country
championhsip at the Va. Wesleyan Invitational with a time of 19:50
on Saturday morning.
Duncan’s finish helped the Generals finish fourth out of
seven teams at their first meet of the year. W&L finished the
race with 92 points.
Other top finishers for W&L included senior Gretchen Tencza
(South Meriden, Conn./Orville H. Platt) who finished 10th with a
time of 21:58 and senior Lucy Rankin (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) who
crossed the finish line with a time of 22:48 to finish in 21st
place.Eastern Mennonite won the team championship with 33
points.
They were followed by Roanoke (52 points), Lynchburg (84 points)
and W&L.W&L returns to action next Saturday as they host
the Generals Invitational at 10:00 am.
