BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Washington and Lee women's cross country team finished eighth out of 14 teams at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational on Friday, but were the second-best Division III program.
Florida State claimed the team title with 25 points, Ohio University was second with 55 points, Virginia Tech finished third (87 points) and the Generals totaled 201 points.
Junior Kirsten McMichael (Eighty Four, Pa./Ringgold) led the Blue and White with a 45th-place finish (23:34.50) out of 116 competitors on the 6k course. Junior Militsa Mircheva of Florida State took the individual title, crossing the finish line in 20:45.00.
Sophomore Katie Bearup (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) placed 49th with a time of 23:54.80, and sophomore Julia Moody (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) was right behind her in 50th (23:58.00). First-year Katie Harris (Ashburn, Va./Rock Ridge) took 53rd in 24:01.00, and first-year Hannah Dieterle (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) rounded out the scoring in 57th (24:05.80).
The Generals next compete at the Shenandoah Hornet Harrier on Saturday, September 23, at 10:00 am.
