ELKTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee women's cross country team finished second at the inaugural Shenandoah Valley Invitational on Saturday with 56 points. Bridgewater claimed the top spot with 45 points and Eastern Mennonite came in third (61 points).
Senior Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris ) placed second overall (19:19) to lead the Generals. First-year Liz Spruill (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine's) was one spot behind her in third at 19:46, and first-year Alana Babington (Mobile, Ala./St. Paul's Episcopal) crossed the finish line fifth with a time of 19:57.
Rounding out the scoring for the Blue and White were sophomore Rachel Solomon (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep) in 13th at 20:20 and senior Katie Driest (Davidson, N.C./North Mecklenburg) in 36th (21:34).
Sophomore Jessica Curry of DeSales was the top individual finisher with a time of 19:06.
The Generals next compete at the Paul Short Invitational on Saturday, October 5, at 2:30 pm.
