NEW ORLEANS — The Washington and Lee women's cross country team was recently honored by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as a 2012 All-Academic Team.
The W&L team, which earned the 14th ODAC Championship in program history and took fourth at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional this past fall, was one of 197 teams, from 39 conferences, in Division III to be honored. The Generals posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.536.
Along with the team honor, seniors Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan) and junior Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris) earned All-Academic status. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester and placed in the top 35 at the NCAA Regional Championships.
Schultz and Ortiz both qualified for the NCAA Championship with Top 9 finishes at the Regional Championship, while Madison placed 25th.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or better.
