W&L Women's Cross Country Finishes Second at CNU Invite

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — At the Christopher Newport Invitational on Saturday, the Washington and Lee women's cross country team lost by two points and finished second out of 15 teams. The host Captains took the top spot with 84 points and the Generals ended with 86. Eastern Mennonite placed third with 99 points.

Senior Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass/Hopkinton) led W&L, taking third with a time of 22:37.29 in the 6k race. Classmate Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan) crossed the finish line two spots later in fifth at 23:19.48. Junior Annelise Madison (Roca, Neb./Norris) took 12th with a time of 23:56.81.

Junior Brandie Huffman (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) placed 29th with a time of 24:32.50, and first-year Kaitlin Bonaro (Waldorf, Md./North Point) rounded out the scoring in 38th at 24:45.20.

Kaylee Kubisiak of Bridgewater was the top individual finisher with a time of 22:27.70, and her teammate, Olivia Mills, finished second at 22:35.61.

The CNU Invite was the last meet for the Generals before the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship at Peakview Farms in Harrisonburg, Va., on October 27. W&L took first at the ODAC Preview hosted at the same venue on August 31.
