Kris Hoey Resigns as Women's XC Coach; Cupido Named Interim Coach
Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced that Kris Hoey has resigned as head women’s cross country coach and assistant women’s track & field coach, and that current assistant coach Kristin Cupido has been promoted to interim head coach for the 2013 season.

W&L Claims the 2013 ODAC Overall Sports Champion Cup
For the 11th-consecutive year, Washington and Lee University has claimed the Dan Wooldridge Overall Sports Champion Cup, as announced by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference on Friday. The Generals claimed both the Women’s Commissioner’s Cup and the Men’s Commissioner’s Cup on their way to the overall title.

Numerous W&L Students Earn Winter Term Scholar-Athlete Awards
Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced that 179 students earned Scholar-Athlete awards during the recently completed winter term. The students are all members of W&L athletic teams and achieved a grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.500.

Thirteen Generals Inducted into Phi Beta Kappa
Washington and Lee University is set to induct 49 members into the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society at a convocation on March 14. Among the inductees are 13 student-athletes who have distinguished themselves in the classroom and on the playing fields.

Washington and Lee seniors Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass. / Hopkinton) and Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska / Ketchikan) completed in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday.

Schultz & Ortiz Prepped for NCAA Championship
For the first time since 2008, Washington and Lee will have two competitors at the NCAA Division III Women’s Cross Country Championship. Seniors Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan) and Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) will make the trek to Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, November 17 to represent the Generals.

Ortiz & Schultz Qualify for NCAA Championship at Regional
Out of 184 competitors at the South/Southeast Regional hosted by Emory, seniors Molly Ortiz (Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan) and Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) finished in the Top 9 and qualified for the NCAA Championship. The Generals took fourth out of 26 teams with the top two squads earning bids to the NCAA Championship.

At the Christopher Newport Invitational on Saturday, the Washington and Lee women’s cross country team lost by two points and finished second out of 15 teams.

W&L Women's Cross Country Wins Paul Short Run
In a field of 34 teams at the Paul Short Run, the Washington and Lee women’s cross country team claimed the top spot in the White race by 29 points. The Generals finished with 59 points by taking three of the Top 7 spots and seven of the Top 30. Eastern Mennonite came in second with 88 points and Lebanon Valley took third with 178.

Washington and Lee senior Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) was named the ODAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week ending September 9, as announced by the league office on Monday.

W&L Women’s XC Takes Top Three Spots to Win W&L Invite
The Washington and Lee women’s cross country team took the top three spots and six of the top seven to run away with the W&L Invitational title on Saturday morning at the Dick Miller Cross Country Course. The Generals totaled 17 points, which was 44 points better than second-place Southern Virginia in the six-team competition.

W&L Women’s XC Takes Top Spot at ODAC Preview Meet
In the first meet of the 2012 season, the Washington and Lee women’s cross country team beat eight other teams to claim the top spot at the ODAC Preview Meet at the Peakview Course. Eastern Mennonite hosted the race at the same site that will be used for the ODAC Championship in eight weeks.

The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its 2012 women’s cross country preseason coaches’ poll on Monday, and Washington and Lee was picked second out of 10 schools. The Generals received one first-place vote and 72 total points.
