NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Washington and Lee men’s and women’s cross country teams have been honored by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as 2011 All-Academic Teams the organization announced recently.
The W&L women’s team, which finished second at the ODAC Championships and seventh at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional meet, was one of 187 teams in Division III to be honored. The Generals posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.52. William Smith College boasted the highest-team GPA with a 3.77.
The Generals’ All-Academic Team nod comes a week after junior Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and sophomore Brandie Huffman (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) were honored as individuals by the USTFCCCA.
W&L’s men’s team was one of 134 teams to earn the award. The Generals, who finished sixth at the conference meet and 17th at the regional meet, posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.18. Centre College boasted Division III’s best team GPA with a mark of 3.71.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or better.
